Our plan to register 845,000 Georgians to vote from home

Vote From Home is a grassroots organization that’s harnessing progressive power from across the country to send absentee ballot applications directly to Georgia voters for the 2021 Senate runoff election.

The eyes of the nation have turned to Georgia, as the state has the chance to flip the United States Senate by electing two Democratic Senators, Reverend Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff, in special runoff elections in January of 2021.

The fight for the Senate will not be an easy one, and more than ever, vote-by-mail is key to reverse historically low turnout trends for runoff elections and getting in votes for Democrats early.

Almost all Georgia voters who voted by mail in 2020 did so for the first time. Many are unlikely to be familiar with the rules, and may expect to automatically receive another mail-in ballot for the runoff election. Losing these voters would amount to losing a third of the statewide Democratic vote.

Motivated by our success in the general election, Vote From Home Georgia is buckling down with our multi-layered outreach model to turn out a diverse coalition of voters and provide robust voter protection to secure Democratic wins.
  • 1. Mobilize and turn out Black voters, an essential demographic for Democratic success.
  • 2. Push vote-by-mail and early voting to all Democratic voters to ensure votes are cast safely and counted fairly.
  • 3. Persuade suburban and college-educated white voters, who made up the largest swings towards Democrats in the general election.
How are we going to do it? To achieve these strategic priorities, Vote From Home Georgia will:
  • Reach out to 214,000 Democratic white votes via multi-layered text and phone call outreach, encouraging them to vote-by-mail or early in-person.
  • Employ a door-to-door canvassing program in Chatham County (primarily in the city of Savannah) to reach 47,500 Black voters.
  • Send text messages to 370,000 Black voters statewide to boost vote-by-mail registration and turnout in the runoff elections.

Door-to-door canvassing is the most effective tool to turn out voters, and we are thrilled to return to our bread and butter of campaigning. But there is no denying the power of text messaging during the age of digital organizing. Together, our door-to-door and multi-layered remote outreach programs will reach key demographic and geographic gaps in Georgia, while extending voter protections and ensuring that voting is safe and accessible.
